Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent classified Web Designer and UI/UX Specialist 2.  The Communications and Marketing department at Clark College is excited to announce an opportunity for a talented and innovative individual to join our team as a Web Designer and UI/UX Specialist. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in crafting visually compelling and user-centric website designs, contributing to the enhancement of our digital presence. As a member of the Clark College community, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring designs align with security standards, accessibility guidelines, and brand strategies. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is essential, and you will leverage these skills to implement responsive design principles and conduct data-driven analyses for optimal user experiences. This is position has a hybrid schedule. Three days on campus and two days working remotely.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • User-Centric Design:
    Develop visually engaging website designs prioritizing positive and intuitive user experiences.
    Consider diverse user personas, including students, faculty, staff, and the community associated with Clark College, in the design process.
    Collaborate with development teams to ensure designs align with security standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making:
    Utilize Google Analytics to interpret user behavior, trends, and key performance indicators.
    Tailor designs to meet the needs of identified user personas at Clark College, encompassing students, faculty, staff, and the wider community, based on data insights.
    Implement security measures and ensure designs comply with accessibility guidelines for an inclusive online experience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    Work closely with the IT application development team at Clark College to seamlessly integrate user-centric design elements.
    Collaborate with Clark College’s Communications & Marketing team to align designs with brand guidelines and promotional strategies.
    Ensure designs meet accessibility compliance standards for students, faculty, staff, and the community associated with Clark College.
  • Testing and Responsive Design:
    Conduct A/B testing on design elements, analyzing results to refine designs for optimal user engagement, security, and accessibility.
    Implement responsive design principles, ensuring Clark College’s websites and applications are accessible and secure across various devices and screen sizes.
  • Security and Accessibility Audits:
    Perform regular security audits on web designs, identifying and addressing potential vulnerabilities.
    Conduct accessibility audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.
    Make necessary adjustments to enhance inclusivity for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community at Clark College.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, or a related field OR equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in web and UI/UX design with a strong portfolio showcasing considerations for user personas, security, and accessibility.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma).
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for effective collaboration with developers.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience interpreting data from Google Analytics.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and a commitment to meeting accessibility guidelines.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams, including application development, communications, and marketing.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.
  • This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association.

SALARY/BENEFITS:  Salary Range: $5,214-$7,016/month | Step A-M (commensurate with qualifications and experience) | Range: 58| Code:  195B
Successful candidates typically start at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases.
