Fundraising & Development Intern

Purpose of the Role  

The Fundraising & Development Intern supports the Associate Director of Development and the External Affairs Team on a broad range of initiatives and can expect a fast-paced, well-rounded experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, and sponsorship.

The ideal candidate should possess strong customer service, research, and communications skills (can include coursework and/or previous internships or volunteer experience), and familiarity with nonprofit organizations, fundraising, or event management. This includes the ability to conduct internet research, write compelling materials, maintain accurate database records, prepare letters and other correspondence, and provide customer service to donors, sponsors, and partners.

They should also possess a strong work ethic, curiosity, a commitment to collaboration and teamwork, and tactfulness. An interest in nonprofit management, international affairs, advocacy, and/or public diplomacy is an asset. Through this internship, we hope to support candidates seeking careers in the nonprofit sector, particularly in the international affairs field.

Finalist candidates will be required to take and pass a brief research and writing test.

Core Responsibilities   

  • Conduct internet research using a variety of sources (websites, tax filings, and proprietary databases)  
  • Update donor, contact, and sponsor information  
  • Prepare letters and draft correspondence for the President & CEO 
  • Collect and organize sponsor/exhibitor content (logos, etc.)  
  • Assist with outreach to current and prospective partners, sponsors, and donors, including scheduling calls and meetings  
  • Draft fundraising materials 

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a student during the internship period  
  • Background in communications, nonprofit fundraising, event management, marketing, or related fields   
  • Desire to pursue a career in nonprofits, public diplomacy, and/or international affairs   
  • Ability to pass a short research and writing test   
  • Experience in writing and/or preparing content for websites, email, and social media   
  • Experience with fundraising a plus 
  • Experience with office productivity tools (MS Office, Google Drive, etc.)  
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, prospect research software, or grants databases (Salesforce, Foundation Directory, Blackbaud, etc.) a plus 
  • Global Ties U.S. operate on Windows OS (Windows 10+). Interns must use Windows-compatible devices for both in-office and remote work
