Position Summary
The Visiting Research Associate I primary role is to assist Mile Square Health Center patients with enrollment and usage of MyChart. MyChart is the patient portal for UI Health that allows patients to schedule appointments, message their doctor, view test results, and so much more. The Patient Navigator will be placed at a Mile Square clinic and will be the MyChart liaison for that clinic. They will also work with the Mi Quit CARE in other areas such as manuscript writing and data analysis. The Navigator will also collaborated with our community partner, Illinois Tobacco Quitline.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist patients in enrolling in and using the UI Health patient portal, MyChart on the patient’s smartphone or computer.
- Provide patients with individualized instruction on using the patient portal.
- Provide tailored information on how patients can use the patient portal to help meet their health care needs.
- Apply strategies for assisting patients with low health literacy and/or limited technology skills.
- Complete all required reports to document activities and provide data to measure impact.
- Field referrals from the Illinois Tobacco Quitline.
- Contact patients by phone and conduct a standardized assessment of the patient’s interest in smoking cessation and barriers to Illinois Tobacco Quitline engagement on an as needed basis.
- Provide brief motivational counseling around smoking cessation and engagement with the Illinois Tobacco Quitline.
- Refer interested patient to the Illinois Tobacco Quitline via the patient portal.
- Complete required trainings including Epic, HIPAA, CITI, etc.
- Participate in Mi Quit CARE research study meetings.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects and assignments as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required.
- Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
- Entry level knowledge of research methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Patient-facing experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Experience in research setting and experience working with federal regulations and IRB requirements preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred but not required.
- Prior experience with medical terminology and procedures, including electronic medical record, preferred but not required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to travel ~5-10 miles off UIC Campus (placement may include MS Main, Englewood, or South Shore Clinic)
- Approx. Schedule: 4 days in clinic, 1 day work from home, 9am-5pm
