The Challenge
We are looking for an Assistant District Engineer to join our District 2 team.
 
In this role you will:
    • Review engineering plans for subdivisions, commercial, and other developments requesting access to state highways.
    • Review and approve developer plans and agreements for turn lanes or other roadway improvement projects.
    • Coordinate preparation and review of traffic impact analyses and develops schedules for planned improvements.
    • Approve driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision reviews, and road additions/abandonments IN Davie, Forsyth, and Stokes counties.
    • Represent NCDOT at meetings with planning organizations, municipalities, and other organizations.
    • Manage contract administration of state and federally funded projects and maintain those projects in our HiCams system.
    • Manage project delivery.
    • Monitor our Division and centrally let project construction schedules and cost reviews.
    • Process access permits.
    • Assist our District Engineer and staff with other job assignments as a delegate.
    • Apply a safety philosophy to all operations.
What You Bring
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
    • Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
    • Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Experience writing memos, reports, and emails clearly conveying technical information and engineering concepts.
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Ability to work safely outside with exposure to construction site hazards including night work, heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
    • Excellent communications skills to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.
    • Management experience to supervise activities of junior employees and instruct them in proper highway and bridge construction work methods.
    • Computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Knowledge of HiCams and SharePoint/Plus preferred.   preferred.
    • Ability to safely drive a motor vehicle.
    • Safety toe shoes.
 
Notes
    • Management prefers candidates registered as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors, and we may require registration as a professional engineer with the Board.
Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
