The Challenge
We are looking for a Transportation Supervisor to join our Wake County Maintenance Operations team.
In this role, you will:
    • Supervise a crew of workers in grading, patching/pavement maintenance, shoulder/ditch operations, pipe installation and drainage, and/or clearing/grubbing, etc.
    • Conduct daily safety meetings.
    • Complete record/time keeping forms.
    • Train employees.
 
What You Bring
    • Roadway maintenance and repair experience in 1+ of the following:  shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, asphalt patching, snow and ice removal, crack sealing, full depth patching, or pothole patching.
    • Record keeping experience, such as tracking staff and equipment time and recording material quantities used.
    • Management experience supervising staff and directing daily work crew activities.
    • Work Zone Safety experience, understanding of NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices, and ability to promote a safe work environment.
    • Experience planning and organizing work.
    • Ability to supervise work crews.
    • Ability to maintain close team environment or work independently.
    • A Class A Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: if you don’t have this, you can get it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire.)
    • Strength to perform heavy lifting when needed.
Education & Experience
    • High School/GED diploma, and
    • 6+ years of progressive experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Notes
    • You may be required to work extended hours for snow/ice removal and/or storm debris removal. Your role will be subject to emergency call backs, and you must have the ability to supervise work crews 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for situations which may occur after working hours, on weekends, and holidays.
    • You will be exposed to extreme heat, cold, dust, outside conditions, and high traffic volumes in work zones. Safety toe shoes required.
    • You will be required to wear appropriate personal protection equipment consistent with the hazard (including, but not limited to hardhat, safety vest, earplugs, gloves, etc.).
    • Safety toe footwear is required.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and will conduct a background check with your previous employers for the past 2 years for controlled substance/alcohol testing.
