NEW HIGHER SALARY: $66,016 – $128,731
The Challenge​​​​​​​
We are hiring a County Maintenance Engineer to help lead our Division 5 team in western Wake County.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, and direct Highway Maintenance operations including NCDOT staff and purchase order contract construction.
    • Respond to inquiries from the public, NCDOT management, the press, etc., regarding NCDOT policies and procedures, division projects, plans, and proposed work.
What You Bring
    • Project management experience managing multiple projects and scheduling/directing multiple work crews, and to solve difficult highway projects and maintenance problems.
    • Engineering experience using your professional engineering skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and solve highway maintenance problems.
    • Budget management experience tracking cost expenditures in account systems on multiple large projects.
    • Facilitation experience conducting meetings with staff, citizens, and public officials to conduct investigations and resolve issues.
    • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Management skills to supervise and monitor maintenance programs to ensure efficient and safe use of staff, equipment, and materials.
    • Leadership experience to formulate a comprehensive highway maintenance program within budget and data.  
    • Management experience to supervise and evaluate staff performance.
    • Communication skills to communicate/maintain working relationship with the public, local governments, fellow staff, etc.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and make field investigations on uneven terrain, including steep slopes and work in extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat and cold.
Notes
    • You may have Emergency Call Backs and must be able to respond to Highway emergencies and work during inclement weather events.
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
    • 2+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
