The Challenge
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Specialist to join our Moore County Maintenance team and serve as a technical advisor to our County Maintenance Engineer in the planning, organizing, scheduling, and completing all maintenance, force account, and purchase order contract construction operations in Moore and Lee counties.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Lead our most complex and advanced assignments including analyzing, evaluating, computing, editing, and processing higher-level engineering and other survey information.
    • Establish (planning, processing, and adjusting) or review the establishment of project control networks utilizing GPS and/or conventional survey methods.
    • Use your independent decision-making and judgment.
    • Provide some supervision and/or direct teams’ work.
    • Review technical aspects of survey data and mapping from in-house and contracted services to ensure proper procedures are followed and appropriate accuracies are obtained according to NCDOT, Location & Surveys, and generally-accepted surveying standards.
    • Supervise and review litigation surveys and serve as expert witnesses in litigation cases.
    • Perform your work with very limited technical and fairly limited administrative supervision.
    • Promote a safe work environment.
    • Effectively communicate and maintain working relationships with the public, local government officials, and fellow team members.
    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of your team members.
    • Assist in the supervision and monitoring of maintenance program to ensure efficient use of staff, equipment, and materials.
    • Work outside encountering environmental hazards.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Customer service experience related to resolving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
    • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Office software and CAD drafting software.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and reports.
    • Reporting skills to prepare and review reports.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain an inmate card.
 
Notes
    • You may be required to work at night and on weekends.
    • Safety Toe Shoes are required.
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 7+ years of progressive technician experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
