NEW HIGHER PAY: $32,460 – $56,806
 
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Roadside Environmental team to manage vegetation through the use of herbicides along rights-of-way and assist in seeding/mulching, erosion control, plant bed and wildflower maintenance.
In this role, you will
    • Install erosion control, mow, and maintain plant materials along NCDOT Rights-of-Way.
    • Operate, inspect, and maintain equipment, including trucks, tractors, tractor attachments, mulch blowers, and hand and power tools.
 
What You Bring
    • Agility to work on uneven surfaces and slopes.
    • Knowledge of vegetation management including shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural practices.
    • Experience applying herbicides to control weeds and brush.
    • Experience in at least one piece of this Category B equipment: asphalt distributors, front end loaders, dump trucks, tractor “A” boom mowers, mulch blowers, sod seeders, tractors with sprayer attachments, brush chippers, conventional pesticide applicators, front end loaders, hyrodseeder, or skid steers.
    • Ability to perform assigned tasks and follow verbal/written instructions.
    • A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no endorsements. (Note: If you don’t have this, you can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire!)
  
Notes
    • You will be exposed to all types of weather conditions.
    • This position may require work during non-traditional work hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and times of emergency.
    • You must obtain a NC Pesticide Operators License with endorsements in Ornamentals & Turf and Right of Way within 60 days of hire.
    • You will be subject to emergency call backs, scheduled night work, and work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
    • Safety toe shoes are required.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 2 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
 
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 5+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
