Job Description
This job will give you the opportunity to learn the latest approaches to introducing young people to nature and the environment and engage with community organizations in Solano County to identify kids who have never experienced life outside the city. You will help specific kids and their families to get to overnight camp for a week in July. You will work with enthusiastic camp staff and train them in inclusion and engagement techniques. You can make a difference in their lives—and the world.

Create and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies prior to, during and after July 2023 summer overnight camp at Camp Gold Hollow to ensure effective outreach to ALL youth in Solano County. Perform outreach to community-based organizations to develop program collaborations and promote participation by at least 10 youth who will attend the one-week overnight camp in July.
Maintain office hours in Vallejo, CA as needed. Attend summer overnight camp at Camp Gold Hollow in Nevada City, CA July 7-23. Be available to visit Camp Gold Hollow with families prior to camp.
Attend and help train summer camp staff to build in more intentional inclusion through program differentiation and adaptations.
Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team in the development and implementation of program activities.
Communicate with parents/care takers prior to camp to determine the needs of their youth and act as the point person for parent/caretaker communication to increase trust and accountability. Anticipate potential camper needs (clothing, equipment, transportation). Provide evaluations to camp staff.
Schedule camp tours either in person or virtually. The more information we can provide to parents/care takers before their youth arrive, the better we can serve them during their camp session.
Training will be provided through National Camp Fire and American Camp Association online classes as well as mentoring to develop outreach to youth in Solano County.
