The Position
The City of Berkeley is currently accepting applications for the Program Manager II position. Incumbents in this role organizes and manages major City programs or projects that have a high degree of visibility and are of substantial impact including the development and implementation of program goals and elements; may supervise professional, technical and clerical staff; and develops procedures, programs and methodologies.
This is the second level class in the Program Manager series, fully competent to perform responsible and difficult program and project management for one or more major City programs that have a significant impact to the City and the community. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in the development and implementation of program and project goals, administering program budget and supervising staff.
In the Library Department: The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Program Manager will drive strategic development and implementation of EDI programs, policies, and measurements to achieve EDI at an interpersonal level, organizational level, and community engagement level within the Library. This position will oversee the development, design, coordination, and implementation of programs, policies, and best practices in identifying and addressing systemic disparities and inequities within the Library and supporting Library Staff in the implementation of plan goals, and equity action plans in providing recommendations, insights, and advice. Works closely with managers and other staff to evaluate and implement public services goals, policies, and procedures. Assists development and implementation of operational policies to ensure efficient library service delivery to vulnerable populations and marginalized communities. Ideal Candidate would have EDI Certification or Degree or background or knowledge of public library environments is desirable.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, or a related field
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years in the development and implementation of programs.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver’s license as well as a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to attend evening and weekend meetings.
