NEW HIGHER SALARY: $41,429 – $72,500
 
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Division 4 Construction team.
In this role you will perform both office and field duties including:
    • Support senior engineers in the administration of medium to large highway construction projects.
    • Monitor daily projects progress and resolve constructability issues to maintain project schedules.
    • Direct and schedule technicians in staking out and inspecting every phase of a construction projects to ensure they are built according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Manage all aspects of construction projects with limited supervision from senior engineers.
    • Supervise and train engineering technicians including NCDOT staff and contract construction inspectors.
    • Coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings related to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests, subdivision design standards, and road addition packages.
    • Maintain project dairies on a daily basis including correspondence with contractors.
 
What You Bring
    • Applicant should have knowledge of the principals and practices of Civil Engineering and highway maintenance methods, techniques and the use and operation of field and office engineering instruments.
    • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Customer service skills related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Skills evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
    • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
    • Ability to take detailed notes.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to supervise the activities of junior staff and instruct them on proper work methods.
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 3+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Notes
    • You will be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
    • You may be subject to a wide range of hazards such as rough or uneven terrain and/or work adverse weather conditions to include heat or cold.
    • You will be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and may be required to work nights or weekends.
    • Steel toed safety shoes are required.
