NEW HIGHER SALARY: $45,675 – $79,932
The Challenge
We are looking for a Construction Specialist to join Division 4 Construction team in our Nashville Resident Engineer’s office.
 
In this role you will:
    • Serve as the lead project inspector and support senior engineers in the administration of medium to large highway construction projects.
    • Monitor projects and materials to ensure conformance to specifications and contractual provisions.
    • Supervise and train junior technician including NCDOT staff and contractors to ensure adequate inspection staff are assigned to active projects.
    • Perform/review project documentation, including work performed by other technicians, to ensure that all material sampling and testing, project documentation, and project estimates are done correctly.
    • Resolve daily constructability issues and ensure that traffic control and contractor’s operations are performed in accordance with plans and standard drawings.
    • Monitor contractor progress to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Monitors contractor compliance with subcontractors, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, and Title VI compliance.
    • Communicate and coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, and property owners.
    • Apply a wide range of decision making and use of good judgment.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
    • You work best in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Computer skills using Microsoft Office and drafting software.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Ability to plan and coordinate work of others.
    • Ability to resolve routine problems and effectively communicate more complex problems to supervisors to assist in resolution.
    • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate, establish, and maintain working relationships with contractors, NCDOT, local government, other non-DOT staff, and the public.
    • Ability to complete project documentation electronically using a computer or iPad and using SharePoint and HiCams programs.
Notes
    • You may be required to work nights and weekends as needed.
    •  Safety toe shoes are required.
    • Management prefers candidates with a driver’s license.
 
Education and Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, and
    • 6+ years of relevant technician experience; or
    • High School/GED diploma, and
    • 8+ years of relevant technician experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
