The Challenge
We are looking for an Bridge Maintenance Engineer to join our team overseeing projects in Durham, Franklin, Granville, Person, Vance, Wake and Warren counties.
 
In this role you will:
    • Plan, assign, direct, and coordinate physically-dispersed bridge crews in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of bridges, drain pipes exceeding 48″ in diameter, and box culverts.
    • Manage and supervise all bridge maintenance and force account construction for the 7 Division 5 counties adhering to established policies and procedures.
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and highway methods/techniques related to highway and bridge construction.
    • Considerable knowledge of the use and operation of field/office engineering instruments.
    • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts.
    • Engineering skills to interpret plans, provisions, and specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Management experience supervising and monitoring maintenance programs to ensure efficient and safe use of staff, equipment, and materials.
    • Teamwork and commuincations skills to maintain positive working relationships.
    • Ability to formulate a comprehensive bridge maintenance program within budget limits.
    • Management skills to supervise and evaluate employee performance.
    • Driving skills to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Ability to traverse steep and uneven terrain.
    • Experience tracking costs in transportation accounting systems.
    • Customer service experience with the public, local government officials, employees, and other stakeholder groups.
    • Experience leading meetings with employees, citizens, and public officials to conduct investigations and resolve issues.
    • Safety toe footwear.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and
    • 2+ years experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Management Prefers
    • Candidates with a valid driver’s license.
Notes
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
    • Your work will include emergency situations, nights, and weekends.
    • You will work in places with high traffic and extreme temperatures/weather.
