Job Description
- Lead the consultation, investigation, evaluation/planning, design, design review/approval, and/or determination of environmental/safety impacts of work processes and products (buildings, utilities, systems, sites, mapping, or infrastructures).
- Provide project management oversight that may include supervising junior admin and technical staff.
- Oversee or review environmental, infrastructure, and geomatic projects.
- Manage implementation of projects/plans according to codes and regulation that may include approval authority.
- Work independently requiring professional knowledge of complex and/or detailed technical procedures.
- Engage with the public to explain standards and regulations and appear before regulatory/judicial bodies.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance.
- Negotiate to determine feasibility of project implementation or continuation.
- Apply your good judgment and decision-making to directly impact the life, health, safety and environment.
- Serve as a member on our program/project team and help develop project solutions.
- Serve as a team leader.
- Experience reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts.
- Leadership skills managing, directing, assisting, or training staff.
- Experience administering contracts.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and an understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
- Commitment to safety to apply safety philosophy to all operations.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including night work, heights, highway traffic and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Good verbal and written communications skills to communicate in a clear, concise, organized and persuasive manner.
- Ability to supervise activities of junior employees and instruct them in proper work methods of highway and bridge construction.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Knowledge of HiCams and SharePoint/Plus.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
- a Commercial Driver’s License.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
