Full-Time Director of Development
Job Description
The Nature Conservancy in Indiana seeks a Director of Development (DOD) based in Indianapolis, IN to address the urgency of the Conservancy’s mission and support our work in Indiana, the region, and globally. We are looking for a skilled, professional fundraiser who is an excellent manager of people and compelling leader prepared to inspire the Chapter to realize its full potential.
Responsible for meeting the priorities of the Conservancy and providing strategic direction to our philanthropy efforts in Indiana, the DOD will lead a team of six or more staff accountable for fundraising goals of over $3 million annually. They will cultivate and solicit 6- and 7-figure gifts with the support of volunteer trustees and our new Indiana State Director with notable leadership experience at the Conservancy. The DOD is a member of the Indiana Leadership Team and plays a significant role in establishing the Chapter as a hub of conservation innovation and success.
The ideal candidate will have a background and track record of success that includes:
– Bachelor’s degree and 7 years related experience.
– Experience soliciting and closing major gifts.
– Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors, foundations and corporations.
– Experience planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
– Experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
– Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices and procedures of charitable giving, particularly in capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving.
– Experience recruiting, training and engaging board members and other volunteer leaders.
– Effective communication via presentations, conversations and documents.
– Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in charitable giving and best practices in non-profit management. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification desirable.
– Experience supervising a major gifts program, and designing, implementing, and leading complex donor strategies and capital campaigns.
