About The Upswing Fund
An initiative of Panorama Global, The Upswing Fund for Adolescent Mental Health (“The Upswing Fund”) is focused on the mental health and well-being of adolescents who are of color and/or LGBTQ+, who typically face greater barriers to care. As a collaborative fund, donor investments in The Upswing Fund are pooled and strategically deployed to strengthen community-based programs at a time when they are operating under unprecedented demand. Since November 2020, The Upswing Fund has awarded more than $11.8 million to 92 organizations across the country, highlighting emerging initiatives focused on culturally responsive care. Position Summary & Key Responsibilities
The Intern will be exposed to various workstreams within the organization, including but not limited to:
- Communications
- Assemble monthly newsletters for distribution to Upswing’s growing subscriber base (1,300+) by tracking relevant adolescent mental health events, funding opportunities, tools, resources, and partner spotlights across various news sites and social media channels. Examples here.
- Develop content for the editorial calendar, including daily social media, and blog posts.
- Monitor and manage social media activity and engagement on Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Identify external communication opportunities to raise awareness of fund, issue, and our grantee partners.
- Learning and Knowledge Sharing
- Monitor, analyze, and report on developments related to adolescent mental health in the United States.
- Contribute to the development of insight reports (See here and here for examples).
- Develop summaries and high-level insights from grantee partner reports in multiple formats (e.g., PowerPoint decks, memos/briefs, formal reports).
- Grant Management and Grantee Engagement
- Explore new opportunities for investment to increase visibility of, and support the work of, The Upswing Fund.
- Assist with the monitoring and evaluation process, including tracking and documenting partners’ activities.
- Organize and manage opportunistic grantee engagement opportunities ranging from 1-1 calls to virtual convenings.
- Fundraising
- Assist staff fundraising activities, including donor communications and special events.
- Conduct background research on potential donors and assess interest alignment with The Upswing Fund.
- Update CRM database (Salesforce).
- Programmatic Support
- Provide administrative and logistical support to The Upswing Fund team in advancing fund’s goals.
- Identify and track relevant stakeholders, funding opportunities, and organizations working in adolescent mental health.
- Other duties as assigned
This position reports to the Program Officer of The Upswing Fund but will work closely with the Director as well.

- Rewarding experience that further develops skillsets and gains knowledge in new areas that will be applicable to future interests and career ambitions.
- Meets manager’s requests for administrative support to projects, while also engaging in higher level work indicative of skills, experience, and ability to contribute to organization overall.
- As intern becomes more familiar with projects, increased comfort in taking initiative and working independently.
Position Requirements & Qualifications
This part-time, non-exempt internship is designed for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year of college, or for individuals aged 18+ with at least two years of professional experience, who are interested in learning more about the field.
Internships will start at the end of August and conclude in February, with some flexibility and consideration given to your schedule and school system’s calendar. All Fall-Winter 2022-23 internships will be remote.
- Demonstrated passion for closing equity gaps in adolescent mental health, particularly for youth of color and LGBTQ+ youth.
- Possess a basic knowledge of the adolescent mental health/health care landscape in the U.S., and expressed interest in learning more about the unique barriers adolescents face when seeking out and accessing care.
- An ability to think critically and challenge self and others.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrable interpersonal skills and willingness to work in collaborative environment.
- Able to thrive in fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and balance needs of multiple projects, while maintaining close attention to detail.
Compensation
Panorama offers paid internships with compensation at $14.49/hour, based on the Washington State minimum wage requirements including those working outside of WA State. If the intern is located in a municipality with a higher minimum wage, Panorama will pay the local minimum wage as required by law.
