Full-Time Data Collector – Entry-Level
Job Description
- Collect traffic counts using portable traffic counters in Craven, Greene, Pitt, Beaufort, Lenoir, Pamlico, Jones, Carteret, and Onslow counties.
- Install non-intrusive traffic counters on the roadside in the travel lanes on lightly- to heavily-traveled highways.
- Install pneumatic tube sensors in the roadway.
- Collect traffic data at monitoring and project stations.
- Processes all count data each week from a laptop using vendor and unit software.
- Manages electronic count files on laptop.
- Knowledge of traffic monitoring processes and techniques, traffic data types, and traffic counter equipment used to collect traffic data.
- Demonstrated ability to install traffic counters and sensors in the roadway.
- Computer skills to use a laptop computer, printer, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & Outlook).
- Knowledgeable of NCDOT safety practices.
- Ability to use a hammer to drive large nails.
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks on schedule.
- Strength to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while working.
- You will be assigned an alternate workstation at your home and assigned a vehicle and equipment.
- Extensive daily travel is required.
- Most field operations will be daily trips, but occasional overnight travel is required.
- Working at night is required on higher volume highways and in certain urban areas.
- Periodic travel to collect data in urban areas and other areas outside your assigned territory is required.
- Candidates with a Driver’s License.
- High school/GED diploma; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
