The Challenge
We are looking for an Assistant District Engineer to join our Division 2 District Permitting team.
 
In this role you will:
    • Review driveway permits, site plans, subdivision plans, road addition and abandonments, and encroachments for adherence to NCDOT policies and procedures.
    • Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, and answer questions.
    • Address complaints from the public by phone, in writing, and in person.
    • Supervise subordinates and track task completions.
    • Assist NCDOT as needed during emergencies and inclement weather.
    • Assist our District Engineer.
What You Bring
    • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, Highway Maintenance, and Construction techniques related to transportation.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
    • Strong knowledge of the use and operation of field and office engineering equipment.
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and drafting software.
    • Customer service skills resolving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to various stakeholder groups.
    • Writing skills to produce memos, reports, and emails clearly conveying technical information and engineering concepts.
 
Notes
    • You may need to perform duties in our New Bern and Washington District Offices.
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
