Department Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) Student Health and Wellness Center is a full-service medical center offering general wellness and specialty medical care to all UNT students. The Student Health and Wellness Center is staffed with licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, certified lab technologists, psychiatrists, registered nurses, registered dietitians, radiology technicians, and massage therapists.

Position Overview
The Health Educator is responsible for collaborating with the Assistant Director of the MCHR to plan, implement, and evaluate theory-and-evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services on the University of North Texas Denton campus. The Health Educator provides resources, educational materials, conducts outreach activities, delivers presentations, assesses health needs, evaluates the effectiveness of programs, and collaborates with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive approach to health promotion. The Health Educator also assists with the recruitment, training, and supervision of peer health educators.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of professional related experience such as public health, health promotion, health policy, or health education; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Job Duties
- Presents a professional demeanor when interacting with internal and external customers. Follows appropriate chain of command.
- Participates in all mandatory SHWC trainings and meetings, including committees, as assigned. Practices and follows proper privacy and security regulations.
- Participates/volunteers with SHWC events, including internal events, orientations, etc.
- Oversees online health education programming, including programs and health education consultations.
- Oversees social media communications for the health promotion programs and services.
- Provides health education workshops and programs. Develops campus wide initiatives to change health related behaviors on campus.
- Follows proper cash handling guidelines. Serves as the Alternate Dept Designee for SHAC credit card payments.
- Supervises hiring and training process for all graduate assistants, student assistants, interns, and massage therapists.
- Actively seeks on-campus and off-campus partners for health education resources. Trains and retains an effective group of peer educators. Seeks out funding opportunities from external sources.
- Other duties as assigned.
