Full-Time Assistant Teaching Professor
Job Description
The Department of Health Systems and Population Health, in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (this position/track is not eligible for tenure). This is a full-time (100% FTE), 12-month service period position with an anticipated start date of Fall 2022. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
(a) Teach approximately 6-8 courses per year (quarter system) primarily in the undergraduate Public Health–Global Health major as well as the Online MPH program and the Community-Oriented Public Health Practice (COPHP) MPH program. Areas of teaching emphasis may include public health theory and frameworks, introductory research methods, public health practice, and/or program evaluation.
(b) Contribute to the department and school’s commitment to anti-racism by using innovative pedagogical approaches, centering equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom, and teaching about health equity and approaches to promote health in BIPOC populations though an anti-racism lens.
(c) Contribute to the departmental community by engaging in seminars and departmental outreach activities and mentoring students.
(d) Participate in scholarship that centers on innovative teaching and mentoring approaches and EDI in the classroom at the national level.
(e) Play an active role in Department, School and University leadership, for example, by engaging in governance, serving on key committees (for example, program admissions committees, departmental Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee) and helping to continually update educational vision and strategy.
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in activities that support and advance the department’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as regularly participate in Program and Departmental activities such as mentoring and providing career development for diverse professionals and students, leading seminars, guest speaking, orientation(s), program and department faculty meetings, graduation ceremonies, search committees, and relevant academic activities in the Department.
Candidates must have a master’s degree in public health or related discipline (or foreign equivalent) and must have demonstrated excellence in teaching at post-secondary level.
