Full-Time Western Water Project Manager

To support our mission, we seek a New Mexico-based Western Water Project Manager to join our team. In this role you will coordinate the implementation of the Rio Grande Riparian Corridors Network Initiative to ensure timely completion of project deliverables. Additionally you will coordinate communications with the Healthy Headwaters Alliance and assist with network activities, such as in-person meetings and policy outreach. You will also support NWF’s strategic expansion of the Western Water program by participating in planning, fundraising, and outreach activities and cultivate diverse partnerships with community groups and organizations with shared interests in water and wildlife. You’ll approach program activities with equity at the forefront, and support equity and justice initiatives as they relate to program activities and outreach. You will also coordinate with our state affiliates to ensure cohesion and collaboration across larger conservation initiatives.
This is a remote position and candidates may work from a home office based in New Mexico.
Specifically you will:
Coordinate and implement Rio Grande Riparian Corridors Network Initiative
Working under the supervision of the Senior Director for Western Water, and in coordination with staff from the Rocky Mountain Regional Center, coordinate multiple assessments (science, policy, communications, and institutional) and lead the team and partners in producing an action plan for protecting and restoring riparian corridors in the Upper Rio Grande watershed. Build strong, authentic relationships with community and regional partners, including Native tribes, the acequia community, land grants, and traditional land users, while seeking opportunities to expand project impact and continue work beyond two-year grant period.
Build and maintain network relationships among the Healthy Headwaters Alliance
Working under the supervision of the Senior Director for Western Water, establish regular communications among members of the Healthy Headwaters Alliance, including coordinating monthly calls of the leadership team, preparing and sending electronic newsletters to network members, and planning annual convenings.
Expand and identify opportunities for new Western Water program work
Participate in regional and national planning and development activities to expand NWF’s Western Water program activities, including identifying partners and funding sources for new initiatives.
Media outreach
In cooperation with regional and national communications staff, initiate media outreach to create awareness and promote NWF’s water-related program work through all media outlets. As appropriate, write content for submission to NWF publications, social media, websites, local and regional media, and membership outreach vehicles.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of five years relevant work experience in project coordination, program planning and implementation, and establishing and cultivating relationships with a diverse array of community and organizational partners
Experience with project supervisory and/or implementation reporting responsibilities
Experience specific to water and/or riparian resources, policy, or conservation
Preferred Qualifications:
B.A. or B.S. in Natural Resources, Environmental Science or Policy, or related field; post-graduate degree and/or relevant work experience desirable
Ability to thrive in a multiple-task work environment, work independently with minimal supervision, set priorities and follow through to completion, with excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to identify, engage and cultivate key contacts to develop strategic partnerships
Ability to establish and cultivate relationships with potential funders and provide substantial assistance in preparing funding proposals and reporting on grants
Strong analytic and communication skills, both oral and written. Proficiency in Spanish helpful.
Ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities, and to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments
Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color, in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process
Travel Requirements:
Local travel up to 10 times per month; extended travel 1-2 times per month
Up to 20 nights a year
Occasional long drives up to 5 hours

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000 annually.
