Most projects require analysis of professional journals and publications with the goal of extracting and summarizing relevant information. For example, in a project for the NIH, Gryphon interns processed data on potential therapies for major threats to public health. In work for WHO, a Gryphon intern gathered data on what research was being done on poliovirus around the world conducting policy analyses, or coordinating stakeholders participating in discussions, interviews or workshops. You may also use your quantitative and analytical skills to develop parameters for mathematical models of infectious disease spread and consequences. Each project will enable you to think, research and write in new ways. You will not, however, be involved in laboratory work; there is no lab on the premises.
