Full-Time Traffic Signals & Streetlights Technical Analyst
Job Description
- Design and review PHM-125 legal traffic signal drawings and street lighting drawings ensuring to meet the current related standards.
- Review and provide comments on traffic signal and street lighting submissions through the EA process.
- Prepare and review contract documentation and drawings for traffic signal and street lighting tenders.
- Coordinate active transportation, traffic signal and street lighting initiatives.
- Oversee and evaluate the level of service of the traffic signal operations.
- Oversee/conduct travel time studies to evaluate the traffic signal coordination.
- Respond to inquiries from the public or Council related to traffic signal and street lighting concerns.
- Prepare technical reports for senior staff and Council.
- Provide on site and written direction to contractors in the undertaking of all traffic signal and street lighting related works.
- Ensure that work is completed within established guidelines and standards (i.e. HTA, OTM Book 12…), on time and on budget.
- Assist Project Managers with managing consultants in undertaking the design and construction works for traffic signal and street lighting related capital projects.
- Maintain traffic signal and street lighting design drawing updates using MicroStation.
- Work in conjunction with other agencies on transit signal initiatives.
- Participate in Region wide ITS initiatives.
- Work in partnerships with the other municipalities to oversee that various traffic signal and street lighting maintenance and operations agreements are adhered to.
- Research and prepare recommendations regarding new technologies and procedures for traffic signals or street lighting.
- Other duties as assigned.
What the role requires:
- Successful completion of a degree/diploma in Transportation, Engineering Technology and/or Civil Engineering with 3 years of experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Practical knowledge of and experience in traffic signals and street lighting designs and construction.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of traffic operations, TAC, OTM Books, OPSS, OPSD, Highway Traffic Act and other relevant legislation.
- Advanced computer skills utilizing MS Office, AGI Streetlighting, Synchro and Microstation.
- Valid “G” driver’s license in good standing and daily access to a vehicle.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you’ll have the ability to work remotely and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It’s important to note that your remote work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we’re compliant with all regulations and policies.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
