Full-Time Traffic Operations Engineer
Job Description
- Lead, assist, and collaborate on projects involving the team and functions, such as traveler information, incident management, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) operations, Statewide Transportation Operations Center / Regional Traffic Management Centers (STOC/RTMCs) operations, and traffic operations design.
- Develop estimates and scopes of work for ITS and traffic operations strategies and projects.
- Support our team members and supervisors with the identification, application, coordination, and obligation of available funding sources, including the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and associated Strategic Transportation Investments (STI) prioritization process, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ), and assorted federal grants.
- Support team members and supervisors with the development of performance metrics to encourage data-driven decisions.
- Help implement special corridor projects, such as Integrated Corridor Management.
- Work closely with our Private Engineer Firms (PEFs) and other NCDOT units in delivering project deliverables.
- Support our operational programs/special projects during emergencies as needed.
- Experience in Traffic Operations and Transportation Planning.
- Demonstrated contract and project management experience, including contract and scope of work writing.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and explain complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
- Candidates with a Class C Driver’s License and those registered as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- You will be expected to occasionally travel, participate in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, produce quality documents, and present in public forums.
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
