The writer/editor reviews pesticide recommendations in the UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) pest management-related manuscripts, and analyzes conformity with state and federal law and UC ANR Policy on Pesticides and Related Chemicals. The successful candidate will assist with annual training of UC ANR employees responsible for applying pesticides. The successful applicant will write technical and non-technical articles documenting advances in pest management, including the reduction in risk to human and environmental health associated with integrated pest management programs and practices. The successful applicant will be responsible for editing technical and non-technical articles and feature stories. The successful applicant may also be responsible for some graphic design work including development of infographics. Reports to an Academic Coordinator and provides technical and administrative support to two programs: the Office of Pesticide Information and Coordination (OPIC) and the Western IPM Center. Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience writing and editing documents for content and accuracy, logic and clarity, and conformance to style and format requirements
- Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style and punctuation
- Thorough skills to write clear, engaging, compelling and effective copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences
- Knowledge of pesticide-related terms and sources of pesticide information
- Library research skills that includes the ability to research and verify facts
- Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent time management and the ability of prioritize tasks and commitments and simultaneously manage multiple projects to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and productivity
- Thorough interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact with clientele and colleagues through multiple communication platforms
- Computing skills including use of OS and Windows based systems and software, and graphic design software
Preferred:
- Ability to design infographics
