We are looking for a talented Technical Advisor- Sales Application Engineer to join our team specializing in New Power Business in Shoreview, MN.

 

•    This dual customer/product focused, developing leadership position serves as the expert technical liaison between OEMs and represents our customers during new product development programs. Applying Cummins’ products to customer vehicles requires the development of technical specifications, implementing new design configurations, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customers’ products in a variety of applications. Integrating high quality and optimized customer solutions requires the interaction with sales and marketing teams.

•    Obtains input and negotiates with Subject Matter Experts and Value Package Introduction (VPI) Teams and delivers product data and installation requirements to Application Engineers and OEMs •    Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of product selection, design and integration that impact OEM machine performance, optimization and quality •    Creates, manages, improves and applies processes such as Installation Quality Assurance, OEM integration and product selection and tools such as Advisor, Cummins OnLine Specifications (COLS) and Global Customer Engineering (GCE) required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

•    Develops strong working relationships with customer technical counterparts to serve as their primary liaison to deliver highly specialized product technical information, manage product specifications, communicate product change information, conduct highly complex installation issue resolutions and facilitate customer requests •    Serves as a local authority in the areas of product, application and market knowledge to support OEM product selection and equipment design •    Drives and manages system level requirements during translation of customer needs and “voice of the customer” into functional product requirements •    Makes critical program-related decisions while serving as the customer/market advocate inside Cummins during participation in new product development programs, design reviews and product change request processes •    Presents project status and proposes solutions to roadblocks for key internal or external stakeholders such as customers and business leadership •    Collaborates with internal and external industry peers within Customer Engineering Advances the state of the practice for Customer Engineering. Proposes innovative customer-focused initiatives and projects •    Advises and transfers knowledge of Customer Engineering through coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers.

•    Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.

•    Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.

•    Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.

•    Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).

 

Education, Licenses, Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

 

Experience

Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s). Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

 

Additional Responsibilities:

•    The position is in Sales Application Engineering (SAE) team and the ideal candidate will lead tasks more closely aligned with customer-facing activities and industry influencing which includes Global Application Engineering trainings, course development, customer-facing webinars, development and publication of white papers.

•    Significant experience with power generation systems. Knowledge of genset design, manufacture and test methods a plus •    The candidate will also own the technical relationship with our internal Product management and Engineering teams and empowering them to better understand customer requirements and to deliver superior results. •    Work with Engineering and Product management teams on complex technical issues affecting North America distributors •    Candidate will be expected to support global requests to address growing customer needs. This type of support will require in-depth technical product knowledge relating to all our generator sets manufactured globally •    The candidate will function as a global subject matter expert (on at least three  or four components), coach peers for technical direction and application of problem-solving tools or processes •    Candidate will identify and champion improvement opportunities such as errors in datasheet and specification sheet that could affect Installation quality by working with Engineering and Product teams.

•    The candidate will plan and drive activities for the assigned projects, manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project status to leadership.

•    Coach and develop other engineers. Consistently meets objectives and delivers quality work with autonomy.
