The Position

At Kessel Run (KR) we are looking to strengthen and grow our Observability team by hiring a team lead with a bias for action to join the All Domain Common Platform (ADCP) Operations portfolio. This team manages a large-scale Kubernetes  environment  by providing customers access to metrics, logging and other tooling for their application. In this role, you will be involved with and exposed to a wide variety of systems and technologies but primarily focused on Observability product management: Providing the KR enterprise with real-time logging, reporting, and dashboards that provide the state of any KR IaaS, PaaS, Service and app running in a variety of environments. The KR team is aggressively moving towards a “Continuous Observability” model. We are looking for someone with an “automation” mindset that thrives in high paced collaborative environments.

What You Will Do

  • Organize and execute the Observability product backlog using Gitlab Issues by conducting user interviews, prioritizing feature requests and capturing work in progress.
  • Create and maintain the Observability roadmap using epics and milestones in Gitlab Issues, capture user satisfaction metrics and market Observability products to your stakeholders.
  • Ideate approaches to automation where possible and integrate existing systems into third party systems/applications (treat operations as a development effort).
  • Provide expertise on observability of Kubernetes applications covering performance, telemetry, logging, alerting, tracing, and troubleshooting.
  • Design and implement solutions for monitoring infrastructure, platforms, and applications/services.
  • Drive faster MTTD/MTTR for critical systems.
  • Support CI/CD.
  • Work with other teams to elevate constraints and eliminate blockers.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation.

Who You Are

  • You are passionate in assisting the Air Force in improving it’s software development and want to assist them in building better systems in a cost efficient and well engineered manner.
  • You are passionate about leading a team of highly motivated engineers.
  • Must have experience with Kubernetes, including but not limited to open source software deployments via Helm Charts.
  • Must have experience with one or more system monitoring, alerting and analytics technologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure including but not limited to data center operations, server hardware, web servers (nginx, EC2, etc.), databases (MS SQL, PostgreSql, mySQL, mongoDB), virtualization (VMware), networking, storage, monitoring, etc.Technologies to include: VMWare vRealize, VROperations, Blue Medora, Dell Open Manage, EFK, OpenDistro, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms such as Gitlab CI and Concourse.
  • You have experience working with cloud offerings (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • You have hands-on experience with major PaaS solutions (Pivotal Cloud Foundry or Kubernetes).
  • You feel comfortable speaking up when the wrong technical direction is being taken.
  • You have or can obtain 8570 IAT Level 2 (Such as CompTIA Sec+ CE) within a certain timeframe
  • You are a U.S. citizen and are eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (see eligibility requirements here)

This is a Federal civilian service position within the United States Air Force. We are hiring at the equivalent of a GS-13 up to GS-14 level for this position. This means you can expect a base salary of $79,468 to $122,077 multiplied by your locality rate, based on your experience. You can find your locality definition here and see the pay tables for the GS scale here. Our headquarters is located in Boston, MA; for a Boston-based employee, this would translate to a range from $102,601 to $157,614
