DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for a talented Systems Performance Engineer Technical Advisor to join our team specializing in Thermal and Fluid Systems for our Engine Business Unit in Columbus, IN. This is a hybrid opportunity.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
The position is in the System Performance, Aftertreatment, Controls, and Emissions (SPACE) team, which delivers business critical product improvement projects for on- and off-highway engine platforms in North America. The team is part of the Current Product Improvement organization within the Engine Business Unit.
The key position responsibilities:
• Lead complex current product improvement projects that involve engine performance, aftertreatment performance, emissions, on-board diagnostics (OBD), calibration, and/or control system software changes along with hardware interaction on diesel or spark-ignited products.
• Execute structured problem-solving utilizing Six Sigma DMAIC tools and systems engineering concepts. Lead the investigation of system problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, validate solutions and document results after applying CMI engineering standards. Champion usage of simulation tools as a part of project activities.
• Direct team members to conduct test cell or vehicle testing, system simulations, engine performance and field data analysis. Utilize service engineering processes and data analytics to define issues and deploy solutions.
• Function as a local subject matter expert and influence direction on peer engineers’ projects
• Execute project management (scope, schedule and resources) activities for the assigned projects. Responsible for project planning, managing stakeholder expectations and communicating project status to leadership.
• Lead functional excellence initiatives to deploy or improve capability of existing tools/processes identified as critical to the department’s success. Mentor junior team members in the team who are interested in pursuing technical career path.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
• BS in Engineering (preferably mechanical) with a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR MS in Engineering (preferably mechanical) with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience
• Strong technical, analytical, critical thinking and leadership skills, and will thrive in a dynamic, cross-functional team-based work environment
• Working knowledge of the diesel or spark-ignited engine system with functional depth in at least one key subsystem such as aftertreatment or air handling. Prior experience delivering emissions compliance, on-board diagnostics or system simulation projects is desirable.
• Working knowledge of engine controls, calibrations, engine data acquisition, engine data analysis, engine system simulation, and relevant tools such as Matlab, Simulink, AVL-Concerto, GT-Suite, AVL-Boost, etc
• Prior experience delivering complex projects or solving system level performance issues or addressing product problems is a plus.
• Experience applying robust problem-solving and design tools such as 7-step problem solving, FTA, FMEA, RCA, etc. Six sigma and/or system engineering certifications are a plus

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
