Full-Time Supervisor, Volunteer Resources
Job Description
If you are passionate about leading the volunteer programs and amazing team at SickKids, we have an exciting and critical role for you. As the interim Supervisor for Volunteer Resources, you will be leading an incredible team for the next 13 months. Our volunteer programs are an essential part of care working closely with child life, clinical care and research ensuring the best experience and support for our patients, caregivers and health care staff. You will be responsible for leading, planning, directing, and overseeing the operations of the Volunteer Resources Department, including a direct team of 4 staff, ~1500+ volunteers: and 250 Volunteer Supervisors. The position entails a high degree of collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to achieve a high-performing, productive, and engaged volunteer workforce. The overarching accountabilities are to ensure safe, appropriate, and meaningful placements that benefit both the hospital and the volunteer.
Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:
- Lead the Volunteer Resources team and function with overall accountability for the Hospital’s Volunteer Programs listed below. This includes all aspects of the volunteer lifecycle, including oversight for recruitment, selection, and placement of volunteers. A significant portion of the role will involve rebuilding and reintegrating volunteer programs affected by the pandemic as well as setting and implementing Equitable, Diverse and Inclusive priorities for our programs and processes.

- Special Events Volunteer Program
- Oversee and ensure the completion and compliance of volunteer onboarding requirements; including but not limited to, Vulnerable Sector Search, TB and Immunizations, Reference Checks, Volunteer Orientation and Training, including compliance with mandatory new-hire and annual iLearn modules
- Assume people management responsibilities for Volunteer Resources staff as well as for all volunteers, including goal setting, recognition, coaching, succession planning, career planning and engagement.
- Manage and assume business ownership of the Volunteer Resources system (VSysOne), including partnership with HRMS to manage interfaces with other systems (e.g. PeopleSoft HCM): development, integration, data integrity, reporting, and metrics.
- Responsible for education, guidance, and relationship management, for approximately 250 Volunteer Supervisors (SickKids staff)
- In partnership with Director managing the Volunteer Resources operating budget; as well as SickKids Foundation donation funds.
- Partner with Director and SickKids Foundation and SickKids Foundations Relations team to manage and implement donor proposals
- Ensure a high level of engagement of Volunteer Resources staff and Volunteers, through activities and initiatives such as workshops/lectures, recognition, appreciation events, National Volunteer Week, placement satisfaction, and role development and progression
- Foster collaboration and partnerships with external community organizations volunteering at the hospital (15+) and new volunteer program initiatives
- Partner with and support the Woman’s Auxiliary Volunteer program (e.g. providing services such as VSS checks, and volunteer support in seasonal peaks)
- Provide Volunteer Resources subject matter expertise and representation on hospital-wide internal and external strategic initiatives)
- Develop new (as required) and maintain existing Volunteer policies
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 5+ years of progressive experience working in Volunteer Resources Administration or equivalent HR experience
- University degree in a relevant discipline and/or course work in the field of Human Resources leading to the completion of the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certification in Volunteer Administration considered an asset
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and decision skills
- Experience in an environment with a large team of volunteers and high-volume recruitment
- Technical skills and experience working with HRMS and Volunteer Management Systems
- Ability to advocate, motivate, and influence others in order to gain their support and commitment
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, collaborate and engage constructively with others
- Attention to detail and effective time management skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of applications
- Experience in project management and execution
