Street Reds Community Coach
The Purpose
The Manchester United Foundation works in some of the most disadvantaged areas across Greater Manchester, taking Manchester United to the heart of the community. The Street Reds project uses the power of football to give young people an opportunity to pursue their interest in playing, leading, coaching and participating in educational and diversionary activities.
These free sessions are aimed at young people aged 8 -19 and promote inclusivity, provide regular physical activity opportunities and the ability to feel valued as part of a group. Enriching the lives of those who might become isolated the sessions assist develop a range of soft skills, increasing social mobility through inter project tournaments, employment, and volunteer education.
The main responsibility of this role is to support the delivery of the street reds programme through football coaching and youth engagement activities on evening projects on a casual basis.
Location : We operate from sites across Greater Manchester (locations can be found on the website).
Working hours: Projects start from 5pm Monday-Friday. Working hours are between two and six hours a week dependent on project.
The Role
- To deliver high quality football coaching in line with the Manchester United Foundation values and identity.
- Deliver or support on the delivery of a curriculum of social education workshops designed to improve participant’s confidence, employability, and personal development through football.
- To help create a fun and safe Street Reds environment that is inspiring, dynamic, challenging, and educational.
- Attend staff training and CPD as and when required.
- Support the Head Coach in ensuring the delivery of sessions remains high and all suitable duties on the night are undertaken.
- Ensure that the Foundation’s code of conduct is upheld in all activities, delivery, and physical appearance.
- To support the Head Coach to register young people into the session, ensuring we are compliant with the Foundation consenting procedures.
- Support the Head Coach in the collation of case study information for termly reporting to funders when required.
- Uphold the Foundation’s Safeguarding policy and guidelines to ensure all young people are safe and looked after.
- Maintain required qualifications in line with the FA Coaches license and other qualifications where required.
- Be aware of an uphold risk assessment procedures for each venue worked at including Covid- safety guidelines.
- Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned that is consistent with the purpose of the role and its level of responsibility, including the need to work at alternative venues.
The Person
- Minimum FA Level 1 in coaching football
- First Aid qualification
- A full clean UK Driving license (desirable)
- Youth work qualification (desirable)
- Experience and confidence working with disengaged young people.
- Experience in managing confrontation and conflict (desirable)
- Display high levels of social and emotional intelligence.
- Experience working (paid or volunteering) with children and young people, preferably within a charitable, school or sporting environment.
- Experience in positively engaging with young people in an educational, sporting or youth work setting.
- A passion for working with children, young people and hard to reach groups.
- Self-driven individual who brings life and energy to their delivery.
- Ability to be a positive role model.
- Ability to adapt and diversify delivery in programmes/sessions.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as a team member.
- Punctual.
- Flexible.
