POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for discovering the information and relationships contained within the many data streams both internal and external captured and managed in the Noovie Shared Services environment. This information and data relationships are key for creating new and innovative data products as well as for our consumer & b2b products. The primary focus is to apply data mining techniques, statistical analysis, analytical models, empirical algorithms and high quality predictive systems for applications including creating enhanced customer segments, identifying consumer behavior patterns, identifying media preferences and behavior based on media preferences, optimizing ad campaigns, and for enhancing consumer experiences in Noovie app & websites. The candidate will be working on a small team, so they will be expected to have familiarity with a broad scope of skills involved in development of a product. Must be self-motivated, flexible and willing to do whatever it takes to deliver on a deadline.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques
• Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
• Extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
• Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
• Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
• Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner
• Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance
• Communicate and interface with project team members including but not limited to other technology operations resources, product managers, database analysts, backend developers, frontend developers, project management, technology architects, designers, UX/UI specialists, and testers.
• Collect and document requirements from a variety of sources including product managers, backend developers frontend developers, operations resources, and other project team members.
• Ability to communicate needs to shared services product managements with sufficient clarity and detail to enable the authoring of epics and stories for effective engineering execution.
• Ability to understand and disseminate requirements information from requirements documents into practical work instructions such as Jira tickets.
• Ability to assist other resources such as Front and Backend Developers to understand requirements.
• Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, and offer suggestions to improve processes
• Provides recommendations for application and system improvements
• Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual status reports suitable for inclusion in divisional status & review meetings
• Development and maintain technical documentation.
• Special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Experience with common data science toolkits, such as Microsoft Azure ML, Algorithms.io, NodeXL, RapidMiner, R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc . Excellence in at least one leading toolkit is a requirement.
• Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as SVM, Decision Forests, k-NN, Naive Bayes, etc.
• Great communication skills
• Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB and Cassandra
• Experience with SQL databases
• Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
• Good scripting and programming skills. Experience with JavaScript is a significant plus.
• Data-oriented personality
• High attention to detail
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience required.
• Must exhibit strong initiative and follow-through.
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects at once.
• Ability to handle flexible workloads in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable with managing change, deadline driven, proactive.
• Ability to cross-train and document job responsibilities.
• Experience and ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
• Strong organizational skills.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of the following experience and training (designated as required and/or preferred) that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Experience: 8+ years
Education: College degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
Licensure / Certification:
Data Science certification from SAS, IBM, DSCA, or other body a plus
