Full-Time Sports and Teen Coordinator

Job Description

Under the supervision of Associate Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Sports and Teens Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of all youth and adult sports clinics, leagues and camps.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, implement and monitor all adult sports leagues, recreation programs, summer sports camps, and clinics.
  • Monitor and maintain proper field and facility conditions and pre-game field and facility preparations.
  • Promote character development in all programs.
  • Assist with the implementation of program marketing materials.
  • Assist in recruiting volunteers for coaching and season volunteers.
  • Assist in staff development and building staff moral.
  • Assist in securing sports sponsorship and participation in Community Outreach.
  • Assist in keeping field, facilities, storage areas and offices clean, neat and organized.
  • Carry out special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with Play days in the Community.
  • Foster partnerships with schools in the community to build sports programs.
  • Complete Sports Program setups.
  • Utilize PlayerSpace and other software for sports program communication.
  • Attend Monthly Association Meeting.
  • Create and Maintain monthly gym schedule.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget and practice sound fiscal management of the Sports and Teen Departments.
  • Market and promote youth and adult sports programming along with teen programming

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, and volunteers.  He/she must present a professional image including:

  • Must possess a 4 year degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or minimum of five years related experience.
  • Must have a minimum of three years experience working with various types of youth and adult sports programs at the YMCA or a like organization.
  • Must have proven successful experience in supervision.
  • Ability to develop and monitor departmental budget.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to present a professional image to parents, participants and the general public and the ability to develop harmonious relationships with staff members and community leaders.
  • Must have an enthusiastic personality and be a positive role model for staff and participants.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Certification in Infant/Child CPR, Adult CPR/AED and First Aid required upon hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work a 40-hour week with irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, and/or weather conditions while working outdoors.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal communication.
