Full-Time Southern Utah Stewardship Manager
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position leads management efforts at the Conservancy’s preserves in southern Utah which are open to the public, including the Matheson Wetlands Preserve near Moab, Utah, the Sheep Bridge Nature Preserve near Virgin, Utah, the White Dome Nature Preserve, near St. George, Utah, and other properties which are not open to the public. The Stewardship Manager will lead all management aspects on the preserves, including noxious weed control, maintaining fences, boardwalks, kiosks, unpaved trails, and other improvements and infrastructure and managing contractors to assist with such work, as well as coordinating restoration and research projects on TNC properties. The position will also monitor conservation easements and complete annual easement compliance reports. This position will also be the primary contact with Preserve visitors and the local communities, with significant responsibilities for outreach and communication with various interested parties. The position requires working independently with federal, state, local government staff, community leaders, and private landowners. He/she must be able to maintain positive relationships in a largely rural setting with diverse groups, such as tourists, recreation enthusiasts, farmers, ranchers, and tribal communities. In addition, this position may assist with maintenance needs at the Canyonlands Research Center or other TNC properties, as needed. This position may be required to have contact with the media and will also support donor-related activities occurring on the Preserve. The position requires safe operation of a variety of equipment (e.g., trucks and ATVs) and tools. This position is part of the Conservancy’s Stewardship Program in Utah and is supervised by the Utah Director of Stewardship. This position does not supervise any staff but will have responsibility for volunteers and/or interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in a natural resource management field and 3 years related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using common software applications such as Word, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Experience working with the general public and with diverse interested parties, e.g., government officials, farmers, ranchers, and landowners.
