Job Summary

The Sociology department is seeking a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality Social Work instruction.

We are interested in finding a knowledgeable, positive professional role model to lead our students. The college provides a two-year faculty induction & mentoring program to support our newest faculty members. The public wants training opportunities and the industry needs trained professionals – it is a great time for our Liberal Arts program to address both.

Our full-time position, to begin in August of 2022, would be teaching in the sociology discipline with a focus on social work. Instructional assignments may include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Social Work, Introduction to Human Services, Social Work Interactional Skills, Field Experience and Marriage and Family. The successful candidate will be committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats. A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical.

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops, plans, and facilitates the learning process.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objective, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.
  • Participates actively as a department member with a focus on student learning,
  • Facilitates discipline-related activities, regular assessment of student learning, student academic advising, and department committee assignments.
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with the Dean, supervisors, other faculty, the Advisory Committee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community.
  • Works with academic success advisors to maintain transfer articulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in social work (from a CSWE-accredited program)
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply teaching skills, motivate and engage students, and be personable and professional.
  • Document the ability to learn and apply new concepts and ideas to develop and deliver curriculum. An understanding of various learning styles and instructional modalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of post-MSW direct practice experience (individual, family, or group),
  • 18 hours of Sociology graduate coursework
  • Experience in post-secondary education teaching

 

Employment Status

Nine-month contractual position beginning in August of 2022.  Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; tuition reimbursement; and a choice of retirement programs–IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
