Full-Time Senior HR Generalist
Job Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Generalist implements school policies aligned with the school’s mission while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. The role will be responsible for policy and procedural guidance and daily operations in functional areas such as onboarding, employee engagement, HRIS, learning and development, and benefits administration.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and maintain manual and automated employee records and files.
- Manage job descriptions, job postings, employment reference checks, and background checks.
- Assist with conducting new employee orientation.
- Collaborate with the Director of HR to understand staffing needs and implement effective recruitment strategies.
- Help define HR guidelines and policies and ensure federal, state, and local compliance with labor laws.
- Support the Director of HR with various ad hoc HR projects across the school.
- Assist with the execution of HR programs/processes in the areas of performance management, learning and development, employee relations, and employee engagement.
- Assist with organizing employee special events, including but not limited to team building, holiday events, and activities.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute various employee benefits programs.
- Assist with FMLA, PFL, STD, LTD, and leave administration.
- Performs intake for Workers’ Compensation claims and processes claims with carriers.
- Utilize HR analytics to assess key metrics and provide insights for decision-making.
- Assists with the acquisition of complex data reports, summaries, and logs for senior leadership and HR staff.
- Conduct exit interviews and circulate exit packages, memos, etc.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
This job operates in a clerical office setting and is largely sedentary; however, some filing is required. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing as necessary. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with a half-hour paid lunch. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and will be scheduled in advance.
Travel
Travel between campus is necessary on occasion, and is within walking distance from each other.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Resources Management or Business
- 4+ years of experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and G Suite applications; Paylocity HRIS proficiency a plus
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem-solving, and achieve results.

- Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism about employees and school information
- Experience in the private sector; independent school system is a plus.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position’s annual base salary range is $85,000 – 95,000.
