ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews Global Technology Program (GTP) program works to engage and support local organizations, advocates, and human rights defenders around the globe to effectively advocate for an open and accessible internet in their countries.

The GTP Policy Seasonal Project Assistant will assist with logistical, research, and administrative support for Internews’ GTP Program’s Policy team. They will have the opportunity to gain experience in program administration, grant management, and Internews’ work to foster independent media and access to information worldwide. This internship position will report to the Senior Program Officer- GTP and will work closely with the GTP team.

 

LOGISTICS

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Internews’ headquarters and global offices are closed or partially remote. Internews staff are currently working remotely until at least 1 July 2021. Until further notice, this position will also function remotely. Ultimately, this position will be fully remote.

Remote candidates based anywhere in the US will be considered. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance, and you must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

Program Administration Support- the Seasonal Project Assistant will assist with the following tasks related to administration and implementation of internet policy programs:

  • Perform research, data analysis, and writing in support of program activities;
  • Assist with program logistics, including technology arrangements, meeting schedules and online trainings;
  • Assist with invoicing, expense payments and other basic financial procedures;
  • Update and monitor financial and programmatic trackers to ensure deadlines are met;
  • Assist with report review and compilation as needed;
  • Assist with coordination of podcast on privacy and data protection;
  • Monitor and collect partner deliverables and reports;
  • Attend virtual ICT and policy related events and other external meetings as necessary;
  • Other duties as assigned;

 

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree or in final years of Bachelor’s program;
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing;
  • Editorial and/or copyediting experience;
  • Background in internet freedom, media development, political science, international relations, or communications is preferred but not required;
  • Experience with website editing preferred. Work on multimedia products and with audio software a plus.
