Full-Time Scholar in Residence in Racial Justice and Technology Policy

Job Description

The Heller School for Social Policy and Management invites applications and nominations for a new full-time (non-tenure track) Scholar-In-Residence position in racial justice and technology policy. 

This position is geared toward individuals with applied policy and teaching experience who can develop courses and micro-credentials in tech policy design and advocacy. The instructor will teach multilevel classes in our programs as part of an innovative project based at the Heller School’s Institute for Economic and Racial Equity. This program seeks to build a pathway of interdisciplinary multicultural tech policy scholars and experts who work on the frontiers of technology and AI policy and racial and economic.

We seek individuals with both relevant professional and teaching experience in the areas of algorithmic bias relative to race and gender, artificial intelligence and discrimination /surveillance, and tech policy design and implementation. We welcome applicants who have experience working at the intersections of racial justice and machine learning, artificial intelligence, social policy, public health, social sciences, or law and hold a terminal degree.

The appointment will be at the Institute for Racial and Economic Equity at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management. The candidate will be expected to advise students and teach. The teaching load is negotiable. As contract faculty, the Scholar-In-Residences of the practice for the RJxTP is hired, initially, for a one-year period. Conditional upon satisfactory job performance and on the continued funding of the grant, future contracts can be renewed annually. 

More specific aspects of the position include:

•	Developing and teaching courses on the intersection of racial justice and technology with a focus on outcomes, policies, and mechanisms regarding algorithmic bias, data analytics, and informatics
•	Designing and facilitating workshops training on outcomes, policies, and mechanisms regarding the intersection of racial justice and technology
•	Publishing articles and presenting on the outcomes, policies, and mechanisms of racial justice and technology
•	Evaluating and improving courses, workshops, micro-credentialing programs, and professional development programs
•	Advising and mentoring students on racial justice and technology policy
•	Designing and developing micro-credentials in the area of racial justice and technology policy
•	Developing programmatic relationships with community partners.
•	Collaborating with Brandeis administration, faculty, staff, students, research institutes, and departments to advance racial justice and technology initiatives
•	Supporting the development of new ideas and initiatives in the local community and beyond related to racial justice and technology
•	Overseeing the development of professional development experiences related to racial justice and technology
•	Create an internal and external culture of knowledge building and sharing
