Part-Time Registered Nurse/LPN

Job Description

Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York.  Seeking innovative professionals from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds to fill two open positions of Registered Nurse/LPN to join the open and welcoming Campus Life team.

The Registered Nurse/LPN is responsible for assisting the Clarke Health Center (CHC) Director of Health Services with the assessment of students while demonstrating sensitivity and respect for our diverse population. The RN/LPN will perform health education with students as it pertains to discharge instructions as well as coordinate with a student’s homebased provider and perform ongoing allergy administration. The RN/LPN will fill in on an as needed basis to assist with patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide direct patient care by performing assessment of student history, symptoms, and progress while utilizing critical nursing skills in accordance with New York State;
  • Make appropriate referrals as needed and instructed; facilitate access to private providers and community-based resources;
  • Follow up with students on referrals and results by daily monitoring of lab and x-rays and calling area agencies for those outstanding results;
  • Maintain prescription board and individual student medication logs;
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation within student confidential files in adherence with HIPAA and FERPA guidelines;
  • Maintain contact with parents, professors and administrators for the purpose of continuity of care in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations;
  • Provide nurse counseling by listening and building trust with students about health conditions and lifestyle issues thereby facilitating a healthier community;
  • Provide appropriate response and crisis intervention as related to Title IX while compassionately supporting, caring and adhering to student’s needs and wishes;
  • Report health and safety issues to the appropriate administrator for the purpose of maintaining safety within the campus community;
  • Perform CLIA waived laboratory tests;
  • Oversee end of day disinfection of exam rooms and the CHC, as needed;
  • Maintain knowledge of Department of Health regulations and keep current with changes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold and maintain a New York State Registered Nursing License with the New York State Office of Professions as ministered by the New York Education Department. Or NYS Licensed Practical Nurse License;
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing;
  • Current professional CPR certification;
  • Prior experience preferred.

BASIS OF PAY: Hourly

COMPENSATION: In exchange for your skills and experience, Elmira College will provide you with:

  • A base starting hourly rate of $25-$27 per hour.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in a standard healthcare facility environment. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a healthcare setting; to occasionally bend, kneel, reach, and twist; to operate equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, including use of a computer keyboard. Occasional travel on Campus and through buildings which require walking, climbing stairs and exposure to outside weather.  Exposure to bodily fluids is a possibility.  May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
