Job Description

Job Summary

Clark County Public Health has (2) vacancies for Public Health Nurse II positions.

 

The Public Health Nurse II works in a population-based practice setting.  The position emphasizes health promotion and prevention of health problems.  Activities may be focused on the individual, the community, or the systems level, depending on how the issue may best be addressed.  Public Health Nurses often work with people of diverse cultures, ethnicity and sexual orientation.  Please see ‘Additional Job Description’ section below.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

 

Requirements include graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and two years of increasingly responsible public health nursing experience.  Experience should document knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the position.

 

Two to four years combination of experience to include clinical experience in a healthcare facility and infection prevention, epidemiology, or infectious disease surveillance experience.

 

Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within 2 years of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Public Health (MPH).
  • Research and basic statistical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating with others, verbally and in writing, including the use of e-mail systems and the development of complex, clinical, or technical documents.
  • Association for Practitioners in Infection Control (APIC) training course or equivalent desired.

 

Knowledge of:

 

  • Identify Occurrences, reservoirs, incubation periods, periods of communicability, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, and susceptibility associated with then infectious disease process.
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Differentiate between colonization and infection
  • Differentiate between prophylactic, empiric, and therapeutic uses of antimicrobials
  • Principles an application of epidemiology; Core function and essential services of public health; Learning theory
  • Risk, causation, and behavior change models; Washington State Nurse Practice Act; Current prevention theory and practice; Interviewing and counseling techniques; Principles of disease transmission; Local services and referral process

Salary Grade: Local 335.391 ($34.59 – $45.18) per hour
