Part-Time PT Fitness Instructor
Job Description
This position works closely with the Fitness Coordinator and the Program Supervisor in the development and application of all fitness programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Provide professional, safe, and effective fitness classes offering ongoing motivation and feedback to class participants. Develop exercise routines for specific classes. Provide specific emphasis on safety and proper execution of movements. (93%)
• Teach older adults proper techniques of using fitness equipment including free weights, body bars, and resistance bands. Demonstrate modifications for intensity and impact of exercises. (6%)
• Maintain confidential participant records. Handle emergency situations and submit appropriate incident/accident reports to appropriate staff. (1%)
• Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
• Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to obtain a degree or certificate/training/experience in an exercise/health science related field.
• Experience teaching group exercise classes for older adults is preferred.
• Willingness to seek additional training and certification from an evidence based or accredited group exercise organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to conduct classes and activities related to fitness.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by communicating, verbally and in writing, with city employees and the public.
• Ability to work with confidential information.
• Possess good interpersonal skills, be team oriented, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city employees, and the public.
• Skill at meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
In evaluating candidates for this position, the City may consider a combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of the position.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
A wide variety of fitness equipment; microphone, audio system, boom box, computer, word processor, database, spreadsheet software; copy and fax machine, phone with voice mail, calculator, and computer printers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and lie down to perform and demonstrate all aspects of the exercise classes along with talking and hearing. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to handle exercise equipment and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The noise level in the work environment may vary from conversational to quite loud with music playing during the exercise classes. The work will be primarily indoors with some minimal walking outdoors between buildings, exposed to weather conditions typical of Wisconsin.
