Organization:
Issue One is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization that is uniting Republicans, Democrats, and independents in the movement for political reform. Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus of more than 200 former members of Congress, governors, and Cabinet officials is the largest bipartisan coalition of its kind ever assembled to advocate for solutions to strengthen our democracy. Issue One is building a multi-year initiative to win game-changing federal legislation that gets big money out of politics and fixes our broken political system.
Position:
The Political Organizing and Outreach Associate is part of Issue One’s growing and dynamic communications, research, and political organizing team. The Associate will work to operationalize Issue One’s advocacy and outreach campaigns, including owning the field activities of Issue One’s legislative advocacy and public relations efforts.
The Associate will play a significant role in devising actions and events to help Issue One advance ground-breaking political reform legislation. In addition to helping develop and execute campaign strategies, the Associate will oversee the continued cultivation and activation of existing activists/supporters and the identification and mobilization of new reform-minded constituencies. The Associate will work with the COC to engage key constituency networks around the country to ensure that critical reform legislation has the bipartisan support needed to pass and last.
The Associate will also help lead Issue One’s outreach activities to build strong relationships with new and existing allies, by identifying opportunities for collaboration and regularly touching base with points of contact at ally organizations in D.C. and priority states/congressional districts.
Responsibilities:
Assist the COC with devising and implementing campaign plans to advance bipartisan political reform legislation;
Work with the COC to design and implement courses of action to promote solutions in key congressional districts and states, identified in coordination with the legislative team;
Oversee research and intelligence-gathering about key audiences, districts, states, and lawmakers;
Execute outreach activities in each key congressional districts and states, including working closely with consultants, vendors and staff;
Establish and maintain effective relationships or partnerships with political reform and related organizations on the ground in target states and districts;
Work with the COC and Communications team to expand organizational reach by assisting with social media advertising, outreach, and list-building campaigns;
Work with COC and Communications team to help develop content and materials to support outreach and organizing activities such as flyers, posters, op-eds, digital ads, print ads, talking points, handouts, press releases, and more;
Work with COC and Communications team to devise and implement marketing, advertising and social media strategy to bring more Americans into the bipartisan political reform movement and help further the national dialogue around solutions;
Oversee brand and message testing for various campaigns and audiences, including working with the COC to develop research goals, vet and hire research firms, analyze research results, and ensure subsequent campaign communications reflect tested messaging;
Work with the Legal Counsel to ensure that IO’s campaign activities comply with legal regulations concerning (c)(3) and (c)(4) status; and,
Collaborate closely with the executive director, legislative team, and other IO staff to complete campaign objectives.
Qualifications/Requirements:
The Political Organizing and Outreach Associate must have:
2-3 years of political, field organizing, and/or campaign experience;
The ability to execute and oversee events of all sizes;
The skills to build coalitions, bring new constituencies into the reform movement, work with leading influential voices to change policy, engage local audiences to advocate for solutions;
Experience in drafting media content such as video and radio scripts, print ad copy, and digital ad copy, as well as experience overseeing production, purchase, and targeting of advertisements;
Experience creating and managing an operating budget;
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities, serve as a team leader, and maintain a sense of humor.
Location
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. This job requires travel throughout the United States.
Salary & Benefits
Issue One offers competitive salaries, including benefits for all full-time employees. Salary range is $47,500-$55,000.
