The Bipartisan Policy Center is a Washington, DC-based think tank that actively fosters bipartisanship by combining the best ideas from both parties to promote health, security, and opportunity for all Americans. Our policy solutions are the product of informed deliberations by former elected and appointed officials, business and labor leaders, and academics and advocates who represent both sides of the political spectrum. BPC is currently seeking a Policy Analyst to support its Economic Policy Project (EPP), with a focus on labor market challenges and solutions. The EPP team is committed to developing bipartisan policy recommendations to enhance the financial prosperity and security of the American people. The project also provides timely analysis of fiscal and economic developments and proposals. 

The Policy Analyst will report to the Associate Director of EPP and focus primarily on three interrelated policy areas: paid family leave, unemployment insurance, and workforce developmentThe selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on these key issues affecting real working families, meet with experts and stakeholders, and witness firsthand how ideas are debated by principals and translated into policy recommendations.  

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position of Policy Analyst at BPC is a versatile one, involving a variety of tasks, often at the same time. Specific responsibilities may include conducting research on issues; analyzing data; drafting and editing reports, policy briefs, blog posts, fact sheets, and op-eds; and proactively executing other meaningful tasks such as project management, event planning, and communicating BPC’s work through a variety of media. The Policy Analyst will be an essential part of a small and hard-working team. 

We recognize that expertise on all of the subjects mentioned above is rare. Thus, we are looking for someone who is both passionate about American workers and their families and has the foundational skills to become an expert in additional areas and support our team. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptional qualitative and quantitative research skills that include analyzing data, reviewing economic and public policy literature, and cogently summarizing complex issues
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, particularly in writing 
  • Knowledge of and interest in federal policymaking; experience with policy related to labor markets, working families, economic opportunity, financial security, or women’s issues is preferred
  • Experience writing public-facing content (blogs, op-eds, collateral, etc.) 
  • Team-oriented collaborator, but capable of autonomy 
  • Strong organizational skills, project management experience a plus
  • Ability to multi-task on numerous assignments, large and small, in both collaborative and independent situations 
  • Familiarity with program evaluation, cost-benefit analysis, and/or other policy analysis approaches is a plus 
  • A bachelor’s degree and several years of relevant work experience or master’s degree and some relevant work experience is required.
