Part-Time Part-time Custodian

Job Description

This position is responsible for general daily cleaning of Museum spaces, set up and removal of program spaces, general light work associated with operations, and assist with snow removal and lawn care. Employee receives general direction from a supervisor, but largely works independently following established routine and protocols. This position may occasionally require weekend work associated with exhibition openings and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Work decisions are made in accordance with established precedents and departmental policies.

• Cleaning lavatories, kitchen, galleries, workshops, and offices, following established procedures. 25%
• Emptying wastebaskets, trash, and recycling. 25%
• Vacuuming, dusting, waxing, and mopping. 25%
• Shoveling snow, cutting grass, weeding flower beds, and picking up leaves. 15%
• Setting up and removing tables, chairs, and equipment.10%
• Performing other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to do various types of cleaning.
• Working knowledge of supplies and tools used for cleaning.
• Ability to use lawn care and snow removal equipment and/or supplies.
• Ability to work independently and to complete assigned duties.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to use equipment properly and safely.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships.

In evaluating candidates for this position, the City may consider a combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of the position.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Personal computer, commercial lawn/snow tractor, snow shovel, small engines (lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, pressure washer, blowers, etc.), floor buffer, floor cleaner, vacuum, mop, broom, dust mop and dusting equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, climb, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee occasionally works near moving objects and is occasionally exposed to risk of loud noises.
