Full-Time Paralegal

Job Description

We are a feminist litigation firm that is well known for representing victims in high-profile sexual harassment and employment discrimination lawsuits. We are hiring a paralegal (or legal assistant, depending on experience) to take an active hand in our busy, never-boring caseload.

We like to think and move fast, and we need people who can keep up. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are paramount. We go overboard to keep clients in the loop, and we are a positive, collaborative team. You must be a person who is motivated to excellence, both intellectually and emotionally; our work is driven by our passion. This position, in particular, requires someone who (1) can be independently resourceful when we face new/ unique procedural or technical issues, (2) has excellent writing skills, and (3) can balance efficiency with quality.

This is a primarily in-person position, though 1-2 WFH days per week are permitted. We have a beautiful office space in downtown Brooklyn with amazing views, a fancy coffee machine, and a giant freezer filled with an assortment of ice cream bars. We collaborate often with C.A. Goldberg, PLLC, our sister law firm upstairs.

primary responsibilities:

  • draft/ edit/ proofread/ format: demand letters, motions, complaints, and other court filings
  • communicate with clients and witnesses to collect information and relay updates
  • organize and catalog incoming and outgoing discovery
  • keep all client files and information meticulously organized
  • legal and factual research
  • other legal ops: e-filing, logging client expenses, calendaring, coordinating service, sending correspondence
  • coordinating medical records retrieval
  • interacting with the courts and agencies regarding hearings, motions, filings, and other administrative/ scheduling issues
  • assist attorneys with all aspects of a case throughout its life
  • helping attorneys prepare for hearings
  • coordinate project-based work as needed
  • support general office operations (incoming/ outgoing mail, greeting visitors, etc)
  • closely follow strict firm procedures

requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education
  • ability to work concurrently on multiple projects & navigate shifting priorities and deadlines
  • ability to deal with sensitive issues professionally and confidentially
  • proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat; willing and able to learn other basic software
  • strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills

This is a full-time position with a starting base salary of $55k to $70k, depending on experience; raises and bonuses are given at the firm’s discretion. Available benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k, PTO, FSA, and commuter benefits.
