Internship Nonprofit Social Media and Information Management Internship, Summer 2022
Job Description
Fuel Relief Fund is the world’s only charitable organization focused exclusively on addressing fuel supply challenges in major disasters. By providing free fuel to affected communities and the aid agencies that support them, we empower disaster survivors to meet basic food and shelter needs and enable life-saving humanitarian activities. To date, FRF has deployed to large-scale disasters in the continental US, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Ecuador, Nepal, the Philippines, Japan, Turkey, Mozambique, and Haiti and has served in a support and advisory capacity in many other complex emergency contexts around the globe. Our success in the field has opened doors to impactful private and public-sector partnerships, as well as international partnerships with United Nations agencies and other humanitarian actors.
Interns should have excellent communications skills; experience in external communications, social media management and/or reporting; and expert knowledge of social media platforms. (If you have never managed social media for an organization, but are an avid user of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. in your own life, tell us about it. That’s valid SM experience!) Interest in and a desire to gain experience in crisis communication, the humanitarian aid sector, and domestic and international rapid response operations is a plus. As a small organization, you will have the opportunity to work on many different kinds of projects and support national and international deployments. You will report directly to the Executive Director, based on the East Coast.
This internship will be conducted entirely remotely. Internship hours, as well as end dates, are flexible. A 3-month minimum commitment is required. Please let us know if you are eligible to receive academic credit.
The Social Media and Information Management Intern will be supporting online communications efforts in ‘blue-sky’ contexts as well as during emergency response deployments. Tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creating original content for and managing social media pages, website, e-blasts to constituents, and fundraising campaigns/appeals
- Contributing to communications materials and reports related to emergency response deployments
- Developing strategies for, and guidance on, FRF’s social media communications
- Management of ESRI/ArcGIS software and apps as well as updating website during emergency deployments
- Updating and managing content for our GlobalGiving projects and other fundraising platforms
- Supporting communications efforts for speaking events/fundraisers
Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Proficiency with social media platforms including fundraising functionalities (donate buttons, ads, etc.) and analytics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (the ability to clearly articulate FRF’s mission and objectives is essential)
- Must be self-directed and organized and able to work independently with minimal oversight
- Familiarity with WordPress and ESRI/ArcGIS software is a plus
- English language fluency
This is a hands-on position with a dynamic, passionate organization. We would like to find someone who is truly excited about the work and committed to the cause.
