Job Description

Independent Non Executive Directors (HR/ Commercial or Digital expertise)

4 Year term (with a further term possible)

Voluntary (plus expenses)

British Judo is the National Governing Body for the Olympic sport of judo in Great Britain. It oversees the performance programme for elite competition, funded by UK Sport and the participation growth of the sport, which is funded by Sport England. In addition to this, British Judo has a membership from which it receives some of its revenue and it also generates income from events and commercial activities.

The governing body has a Board of twelve members. Four of these are independent directors and there are currently two exciting INED positions that we are now recruiting. For these Board positions, we are looking for human resources, digital/commercial expertise to add to the other skill specialisms on the Board.

Some of the key responsibilities of the roles are as follows:

  • Support and challenge the Chair, CEO and Executive Team to drive and deliver the British Judo strategy in accordance with its mission and values
  • Attend Board meetings, likely to be six a year at the Walsall based headquarters, contributing to the agenda items and governance
  • Be aware of the interests of all stakeholders (including funding agencies and the membership), maintaining positive relationships with these groups

Ideally, you should possess expertise and leadership experience in human resources, digital or commercial. You will be able to demonstrate experience of working strategically as a member of a senior management team or Board and be able to offer independent judgment and clear strategic thinking.
