DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer – Fuel Cell Power Systems to join our team specializing in hydrogen fuel cell power systems technology for our #NewPower Business Unit in Mississauga, Ontario.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
• Responsible for design and development of novel mechanical, electro-mechanical, and thermal subsystems for rail-based fuel cell applications.
• Responsible for entire hydrogen and air subsystem design including layout and component selection.
• Detailed layout of process and instrumentation diagrams including line sizing and general design methodology to applicable standards.
• Selection of appropriate filter components (air and hydrogen), valves, pressure transmitters, flow meters, blowers and compressors.
• Support component specification, sub-system and system level sourcing, and validation testing for performance, reliability, and durability.
• Participates as part of a multidisciplinary team involved in systems-related design work.
• Develops validation and test methods and protocols; participates in in-depth analysis of test data.
• Generates technical reports and presentations and conduct presentations to team members on design progress.
• Creates product and sub-system specific specification documents and procedures for new products; creates, maintains, and updates technical information, internal specifications, and manages engineering changes.
• Identifies systems design improvements, including cost reduction opportunities, and system optimization approaches.
• Participates in (and in some instances leads) fuel cell system and sub-system prototype builds, and experimental test setups in order to validate designs; utilizes and hands-on approach to all projects.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
• Bachelor of Science (or equivalent degree) in Mechanical Engineering or related field required. Higher degree preferred. P.Eng. licensure under the Professional Engineers of Ontario preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge in application of the following principles as they pertain to design: Principles of fatigue and durability, noise and acoustics, dynamics and vibration, heat rejection and thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Experience developing and working with P&ID (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams), PFD (Process Flow Diagrams).
• Strong systems engineering background; hands-on experience in the development and validation of electro-mechanical systems and components is desired.
