We are currently seeking a Project Manager to join NOVA’s Mid-Size Capital Projects team. The group is responsible for the definition and execution of process facility projects typically valued between $20MM and $100MM total installed cost (TIC) at NOVA’s petrochemical manufacturing facilities in Canada and the United States.
Reporting to the Leader, Mid-size Capital Projects, the Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing the project throughout the project delivery cycle including front-end-loading design, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out. Project objectives are established in service of safe, reliable and cost-effective facilities.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
- Develop and implement project execution plans to meet the project objectives, including scope definition, budget, schedule, execution strategies, resourcing and risk mitigation
- Promote and champion Responsible Care® (health, safety & environment) in all aspects of the project
- Plan for and secure internal and external resources required to deliver on the project objectives
- Manage project delivery and performance of the engineering contractors, equipment/material suppliers and construction contractors, including taking corrective action and exercising change management as warranted
- Develop and deliver regular progress reports, proposals, plans and other documentation
- Establish and maintain alignment and frequent communication key stakeholders, especially the Project Champion and Steering Team
- Develop and deliver effective presentations to various audiences including project teams, sponsors and key internal stakeholders
- Participate in the Mid-Size Projects’ leadership team and assist with organizational development and business management activities as assigned
What We Are Looking For:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Science or equivalent with a minimum of 10+ years related engineering and project management experience in petrochemical manufacturing, oil and gas processing or other industries with similar process facilities. Current registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta, Ontario or equivalent reciprocal jurisdiction is required.
In addition, the successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver process facility projects valued between $20MM and $100MM total installed cost (TIC)
- Experience directly managing projects as the authorized representative for the facility owner/operator
- Experience and capability to effectively negotiate and manage multimillion-dollar contracts
- Strong business analysis and decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, organizational and conflict resolution skills
- Experience and capability to proactively and effectively manage project uncertainty through accurate risk identification and management, and design mitigation/contingency strategies
- Hold a valid passport and be able to travel domestically and internationally
The following experience and qualifications are considered beneficial for success in this position:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
- Experience and capability to coach and develop high-performing teams and individuals
- Working knowledge of common engineering information management systems and project controls software

Additional Information:
- This position may be located at any NOVA Chemicals location in Canada.
- Depending on the location of the successful candidate, this position may require 20-30% travel to support projects in Sarnia, ON.
