Full-Time Manager of Development

Reporting to the Director of Resource Development, the Manager of Development is responsible for driving net revenue growth in Bissell Centre’s annual giving, major giving and planned giving programs.

The Manager of Development at Bissell Centre is responsible for leading five fund development team members through on going coaching and mentorship and implementing a consistent drive towards success as a team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Delivery and Management 

  • Working closely with the Director of Resource Development, implement and evaluate an agency fund development strategic plan developed in collaboration with team members
  • Develop an annual operational plan to ensure team is on track with the Resource Development strategic plan including goals, objectives, timelines, and budget
  • Establish and monitor metrics to track the effectiveness of fundraising goals and engagement efforts
  • Contribute to the development of a Culture of Philanthropy at Bissell Centre

Team Management 

  • Lead, manage and coach a team of 5 direct reports responsible for program development and implementation in annual giving and major giving
  • Ensure consistent relationship management and stewardship programs are in place and commitments within the portfolio are honoured
  • Ensure Bissell Centre’s moves management processes are followed from identification through stewardship and updated on an ongoing basis
  • Track and monitor progress of goals for each team member and support the team in identifying barriers to success

Prospect Management 

  • Build strong partnerships and relationships with a portfolio of assigned high level prospects and donors
  • Achieve or exceed assigned fundraising targets for major gifts and annual giving
  • Document and maintain correspondence files including donor database records, gift agreements and grant files

General and Administrative

  • Attend regular management and Resource Development team meetings to address organizational issues and collaborate on organizational initiatives as a member of these teams.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the program budget including approving and submitting receipts for program expenditures
  • Submit monthly, quarterly and annual program reports inclusive of outputs, outcomes, program highlights, stories and work plan updates
  • Ensure compliance with the AFP’s Code of Ethical Standards, the Government of Alberta’s Charitable Fundraising Act as well as Imagine Canada’s Accreditation Standards Program and CRA Regulations

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in major gifts and/or annual giving
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience
  • CFRE designation is considered an asset
  • Active AFP Membership is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven record of successfully managing a team of 3+ team members
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Superior project management skills with a strong commitment to accountability and clear delegation of responsibility
  • Ability to prioritize and produce high-quality results while multi-tasking and meeting tight deadlines in a collaborative work environment
  • Ability to maintain confidential and privileged information with discretion and uphold the highest ethical standards
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, organizational, supervisory and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent presentation skills and abilities
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core an asset.

CONDITIONS OF WORK

  • Head office is located in downtown Edmonton, parking is provided. Note: position works from home during current pandemic restrictions and has the option to continue remote work on a full or part time basis ongoing post-pandemic restrictions
  • Some evening and weekend work is required

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS

  • Annual salary in the range of $63,000 – $72,000 with a comprehensive benefits package and three weeks of annual vacation

The above-noted training must be completed during the first six months of employment and is provided by Bissell Centre.
