Job Description
A unique opportunity has arisen for an exceptional candidate to complete a Doctorate within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Birmingham in collaboration with Liverpool Football Club related to the science of football. In addition to the completion of the academic requirements for this award the successful candidate will also provide appropriate strength and conditioning training and monitoring as part of the Sports Science and Medicine Programme at Liverpool FC Academy. This position is aimed at providing the successful candidate an opportunity to train to become an applied exercise scientist.
What will you be doing?
The research project is not set however investigations should focus on sport science and athletic development strategies to assist academy players throughout the development pathway. The candidates are expected to have a high level of scientific knowledge around the physical demands of football and what the physical support required throughout different stages of development. They should present their own ideas during the interview process. The successful candidate will work predominantly with the U18`s age groups but will also assist with the athletic development programmes and physical testing of the younger age groups.
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will hold a postgraduate degree in sports science (or relevant discipline) from a recognised university. Knowledge of the physiological demands of football including approaches to monitoring and evaluating training loads is essential. Additionally, experience coaching youth athletes / players is necessary for this role. The candidate must be an excellent role model with extremely high levels of motivation and a personality that inspires groups of young players. A strength and conditioning qualification (UKSCA) and coaching qualifications are advantageous.
